A book of my short stories about young people, called The
Kissing Game, will be published by Abrams Amulet Books,
USA, and Bodley Head, Random House UK, either in late 2010 or
early 2011. The book includes stories of the usual length and
a number of 'Flash Fictions' - very short stories of less than
1,000 words, a form which, like many writers and readers, I
find increasingly attractive.
Thierry Magnier have acquired French
language rights in The Toll Bridge, which is being translated
by Elodie Leplat.
Hebrew language rights in Postcards
from No Man's Land have been acquired by HaKibbutz Hameuchad-Sifriat
Poalim Publishing Group, Israel.
My wife, Nancy, has edited and published
a book of seven essays about my youth novels in celebration
of my 75th birthday on 27 December 09. Contributors include
Anthea Church (UK), Emer O'Sullivan (Germany) Lissa Paul (Canada),
Jan Robbins (Sweden), Mary Harris Russell (USA) and Martha Westwater
(Canada). The cover was designed by the artist and poet Ted
van Lieshout (The Netherlands). Called Reading the Novels
of Aidan Chambers, it is available from Thimble Press. Go

I'll be at home for the next few
months, working on: a new youth novel, currently called Dying
to Know You; a critical book, The Age Between: A Poetics
of Youth Literature; and an adult antenovel, Tidman.
